Eclipse Production, a foreign talent management agency and media production company in Japan, announced the launch on May 18th, 2006 of Native Eigojuku, a website that lets members study English by using compelling audio and video content produced by celebrities famous in Japan, including Thane Camus, Daniel Kahl, Peter Barakan, Janica Southwick, Eric Robinson, Eric Jacobson, Marty Kuehnert, and Steve Soresi. The website, www.eigojuku.jp, is an official website on the Au and Vodafone menus, with plans for it to be an official site on DoCoMo soon. Eigojuku.jp is powered by SmoothWeb, the multilingual, multiplatform content management system provided by Green Penguin K.K., the Tokyo-based Internet solutions provider.Michael Anop, President of Eclipse Production, explained “Recently, Eclipse Production developed the concept of a mobile-phone and PC based website that would allow subscribers to study English via their cell phones, with content created by celebrities well-known by the Japanese public, fluent in Japanese, and knowledgeable about one or more subjects, such as music or sports. We fleshed out the concept, lined up content production agreements, and started serious discussions with carriers about getting onto their official menus. We knew we needed one or more web servers, hopefully with easy to use tools to allow non-technical Eclipse staff to keep the site’s text, images, audio, and video, up to date.” “We conducted a grueling investigation of available content management systems. Green Penguin has provided great advice and insights, and their SmoothWeb content management system meets the needs of a multi-platform website in ways that other systems just cannot. For instance, one SmoothWeb server can deliver content to the many different web-enabled mobile phones. This saves a lot of time that would otherwise be spent on duplicate websites aimed at different types of phones. SmoothWeb automatically converts images from one format to another, resizes them, and even handles the media files (audio and video) we create as required by the different carriers.” George P. Taylor IX, a Director of Green Penguin, added, “From the first meeting with Michael about NEJ, I thought the concept was great. I also saw that SmoothWeb was a the natural solution to the platform and media-type issues raised by attempting to deliver a consistent user experience via different mobile carriers. I demonstrated SmoothWeb to Michael and his team, and then his team investigated alternatives for months, while keeping us aware of requirements and issues they became aware of. In the end, SmoothWeb proved to be superior.” What People are Saying On The Site’s BBS “I have seen many different English sites, but I think this place is the best so far. I'll be working hard everyday!!” - Yuko “This English site is the best because such great people have come together to create the site! I enjoy visiting the site everyday”. - Tomo About Eclipse Production Eclipse Production is a highbred foreign talent management agency providing foreign talent for TV, radio, print and multi-medias and commercial narration as well as the related production support services.
